Polyline
The polyline can be generated using different methods:
Drawing polyline.
Polyline by vertexes grid.
From boundary.
Drawing polyline from others.
Surveying polyline from others.
Quick section.
From mesh edges.
Drawing polyline
Use the command line to draw a polyline.
Click Draw.
Click Polyline.
Click on graphic view to create the polyline. In the bottom bar of the graphic view you can activate/deactivate the object snap.
If this command is active the item will be saved in the subproject of Survey. With this command active the vertexes are topographic points.
The command has properties that are activated by right-clicking in the CAD window:
Close : allows to join the last vertex of the element drawn with the first. If the item was drawn by the polyline command, the option will create a closed polyline
Line - tangent : adds a segment using the same direction as the previous element. To create a line as tangent to the previous arc.
Arc - tangent : adds an arc tangent to the previous element.
Arc - no tangent : adds an arc without the constraint of a tangent to the previous element.
Undo last point : allows to delete the last vertex of the line or polyline.
Extend : extends the object while keeping the same direction but using as a reference for extension length a reference point.
Intersection : allows to extend the segment to the intersection with a reference direction.
Polyline by vertices grid
Use the command line to create a polyline entering the vertex coordinates in a grid
Click Draw.
Click under Polyline to open the drop-down menu.
Click on Polyline by vertices grid.
This function opens a table on the right side of the window.
Enter the coordinates of polyline vertices directly in the table. The polyline is visualized in the graphic view in real time.
On the bottom bar there are some commands to help to create the table:
Insert
: inserts a new line in the table.
Delete
: deletes selected line.
Add vertex before
: adds a new vertex before the selected vertex in the table. Click on graphic view to create the new vertex.
Add vertex after
: adds a new vertex after the selected vertex in the table. Click on graphic view to create the new vertex.
Edit vertex
: changes the coordinate of selected vertex in the table. Click on graphic view to edit the current vertex.
Close
: closes the polyline creating a point at the end of table.
New polyline
: creates a new polyline.
Invert
: inverts the polyline direction.
Insert table
: creates the table in the CAD.
From boundary
The command creates a polyline generated from an existing boundary.
Click Draw.
Click under Polyline to open the drop-down menu.
Click From boundary.
Click in internal point in a closed area to generate the polyline.
Drawing polyline from others
A drawing polyline is a polyline part of the Drawing subproject.
Use this command to create a drawing polyline from other types of polylines, as survey polylines, boundaries, design lines, cut-fill lines.
Click Draw.
Click under Polyline to open the drop-down menu.
Click Drawing polyline from others.
Select the polyline that you want to convert to drawing polyline (in the picture below it is a cut-fill line generated from a volume calculation).
Right click to confirm the selection.
The polyline is now a drawing polyline.
Survey polyline from others
A survey polyline is a polyline part of the Survey subproject. When a polyline is part of the survey means its points a topographic points, and the line between the points follows the points (for example after a coordinate system calculation).
Use this command to create a survey polyline from other types of polylines, as drawing polylines, boundaries, design lines, cut-fill lines.
Click Draw.
Click under Polyline to open the drop-down menu.
Click Survey polyline from others.
Select the polyline that you want to convert to survey polyline (in the picture below it is a drawing polyline).
Right click to confirm the selection.
The polyline is now a survey polyline.
Quick section
This command is very useful when working with point clouds, to create quickly cross sections
Use this command to create a polyline by cutting with an horizontal or vertical plane a surface, point cloud or mesh. The cross section is stored in the current drawing subproject.
Click Draw.
Click under Polyline to open the drop-down menu.
Click Quick section Horizontal to create an horizontal cross section.
Click Quick section Vertical to create a vertical cross section.
This opens a new panel on the right.
Select the source (mesh, point cloud or surface).
Depending on the cross section, define the cross section position:
Horizontal cross section: enter or click on the model to define the reference elevation for the cross section.
Vertical cross section: click on the model to define the reference axis for the vertical cross section.
Enter the settings:
Thickness: the thickness of the plane (width of the band of interest).
Average distance point: if the distance between the points exceeds the indicated value the section line is broken into a new segment.
Vertexes reduction: option for reducing vertices of the polyline.
Tolerance: the tolerance for the vertexes reduction option.
Click Calculate.
The polylines are created under the current drawing subproject.
From mesh edges
Use this command to create a polyline generated from the edges of a selected mesh.
This command can be used to extract edges from BIM models or CAD 3D models
Click Draw.
Click under Polyline to open the drop-down menu.
Click From mesh edges.
Select on the 3D model the mesh.
Right click to confirm the selection
Select if polylines are created on the original layer or on the current layer.
The polylines are created under the current drawing subproject.
