E-Bubble with GNSS receivers

  • When working with a GNSS receiver in survey or stakeout functions it is possible to visualize on screen an e-bubble.

  • Thanks to the e-bubble the operator can keep the attention on the display instead of looking on the bubble on the pole.

  • The acquisition of epochs is automatically stopped when the pole is out of the bubble.

  • Depending on the setup it is possible to get the e-bubble information from different sensors:

    • Receivers without IMU sensor: the e-bubble information are retrieved from the sensors inside the Android controller.

    • Receivers with IMU sensor: the e-bubble information are retrieved from the IMU of the GNSS receiver.

Select E-bubble mode

  • To enable the e-bubble click Settings.

  • Click GNSS.

  • Click Sensors mode to enable the e-bubble.

    • None: no sensor.

    • E-Bubble: activates the use of an electronic bubble of the controller. The GPS epoch is accepted if the electronic bubble is inside the tolerance range. This can be activated with any GNSS receiver since it will use sensors within the controller. This method requires a calibration as explained in next paragraph and requires a firm connection between the field controller and the GNSS pole.

    • E-bubble (GNSS receiver): available for receivers with IMU. Activates the use of an electronic bubble of the GPS receiver (if present). The GPS epoch is accepted if the electronic bubble is inside the tolerance range.

    • Tilted pole (GNSS receiver): available for receivers with IMU. Activates the use of tilt and compass sensors of the GPS receiver (if present). Sensors allow to calculate the position of the point even if the pole is not vertical. To turn off the e-bubble temporarily while surveying, tap once into the survey panel and select Deactivate. The position is stored without any check.

Calibration

  • The calibration is a necessary operation allowing the determination of the controller position referring to the pole.

  • When a survey or stakeout is started, a window allowing to perform calibration of the electronic bubble is displayed.

  • To perform the calibration, use the physical bubble to hold the pole in proper position for some seconds.

  • At the end of the calibration procedure the position of the electronic bubble displayed in the survey and stakeout windows corresponds to the position of the physical bubble.

  • If the calibration procedure has been previously performed, and the controller does not change position referring to the pole, the procedure can be skipped and pass to next window.

  • While in survey or stakeout page click E-bubble icon to re-calibrate the e-bubble or disable it.
