Merge surfaces, delete area, divide and cut surfaces

Fusion has tools to work on surfaces, to merge different surfaces into a single surface, delete an area from a surface, divide or cut a surface.

Merge surfaces

The tool Merge surfaces is used to merge two different surfaces into a single surface.

  • Click Design 3D.

  • Click Merge surfaces.

  • The function opens a new panel on the right.

    image-20250115-135834.png
    • Merge operation: how the merging operation is performed in case of area in common between the two surfaces.

      • Replace with surface 2: replaces the area in common between the two surfaces with the content of the second surface.

      • Merge with minimum profile: merges the two surfaces by considering the minimum profile.

        image-20250115-142304.png
      • Merge with maximum profile: merges the two surfaces by considering the maximum profile.

        image-20250115-142412.png
    • Main surface: the main surface to merge.

    • Surface to merge: the surface to merge to the main surface.

    • Result surface: the surface subproject where the new surface is created.

    • Create vertical walls: if Replace with surface 2 is used, creates a vertical wall between the 2 surfaces.

  • Click Merge to complete the operation.

Delete area

The tool Delete area deletes the part of the surface that is internal to a selected polyline.

  • Click Design 3D.

  • Click Delete area.

    image-20250115-142738.png
  • The function opens a panel on the right.

    image-20250115-142859.png
    • Reference surface: the reference surface from where delete the area.

  • Select the polyline.

    image-20250115-142956.png
  • Specify if the delete area is internal or external.

  • Confirm to delete the area.

Cut surface

The tool Cut surface cuts the triangles of a surface along the selected polyline

  • Click Design 3D.

  • Click Cut.

    image-20250115-143253.png
  • The function opens a panel on the right.

    image-20250115-142859.png
    • Reference surface: the reference surface from where delete the area.

  • Select the polyline.

    image-20250115-142956.png
  • The surface is re-triangulated to have the triangles cut on the polyline.

Divide surfaces

The tool Divide surface is used to cut triangles along a selected polyline and create a new surface with separated triangles.

  • Click Design 3D.

  • Click Divide.

    image-20250115-134932.png
  • The function opens a new panel on the right.

    image-20250115-134959.png
    • Surface to divide: the surface subproject where we have the surface to divide.

    • New surface: the surface subproject where the new surface with separated triangles is created.

  • Select the cut polyline.

  • The surface is divided into two surfaces, along the polyline.
